The NF&DBKA runs a series of events, meeting and talks for our members’ benefit.

The current list is below along with a list of past events, they are usually the 3rd Thursday of each Winter month at Lyndhurst Community Centre.

Our AGM will be held at Lyndhurst Community Centre on Thursday the 20th November 2025 at 7:30. The committee will give reports on how the year has been and what the next year might hold for us. The committee is still looking for new members. Our Chair, Krysia, has reached the end of her tenure but is willing to remain, however, if you feel you would like to be our next Chair please let us know. We would also like to recruit some people to take on the roles of Outreach, Quartermaster and Arranging bookings and speakers. If you would be happy to help with any of these please let us know

Run by New Forest Botanics, our Candle making workshops are a wonderful way for friends to get together for a couple of hours of creating and making candles and room spray. You will learn how to blend essential oils to create that perfect fragrance for your candle and room spray. NFDBKA will have a stall at this event. Displays about bees, wax, YLAH and the opportunity to sell honey. HBA Queen Rearing Course : 14 June 2025 & 15 June 2025 HBA are again holding this course with an increased number of places. 20 places have been made available this time which does not take away the nature of the training, as you can understand making the group too large would detract from the tutors assisting during the course. So we can make it as fair as possible the tickets will only go on sale at 19:00 on Monday 3rd March 2025. NFDBKA have a stand at the Bisterne Open Farm Day. We will have honey sales, observation hive, YLAH awareness and candle rolling. We would like more helpers at this event. The Carnival Day is on the Saturday of the Carnival weekend. It starts at 1pm with the floats being judged. There are plenty of things to see and do before the parade leaves to tour the village. Once the parade returns then the evening entertainments starts. NFDBKA will have a stall at this event primarily to promote awareness of the threat posed by the Yellow-Legged Asian Hornet. Volunteers are needed.

Woodlands Gardening Club have a plant sale Saturday 17th May. Set up at 1pm, then 2-4pm. Get in touch if you would like to sell Honey at this event and we can pass on the details!

Thu 17th Apr 2025 NF&DBKA Members Evening - Managing wax replacement / Uses of Wax Lyndhurst Community Centre
Marin Anastosov will be joining us in Lyndhurst Community Centre to talk about how we approach the dreaded task of replacing wax in hives, how to use wax and all the associated information. Join us to tea and cake, and a great session to put into practice in our own apiaries.
Sat 12th Apr 2025 NF&DBKA Apiary BBQ & Maintenance Day Association Apiary
Apiary Maintenance BBQ Day & Disease Inspection : Saturday 12th April between 10:00 and 14:00. It is a great way to spend time with other members of the association and to help us keep the apiary looking good for our visitors. Please bring your gardening gloves, choppers, dock pullers and other tools, remembering we have no power on site. Krysia will be doing a Disease Inspection after the BBQ, so if you want to see her at work and gain valuable knowledge about the process please bring your bee suit, gloves etc. This is something you should ideally carry out in your own hives about four times in a year. If you are tidying your garden and have any bee friendly plants please could we have them. We are hoping to add more colour and nectar to the apiary. 'Preparing For Exams' with Jenny Morgan: 18th March 2025, 7pm Jenny Morgan has worked in Secondary and Tertiary Education for over thirty years as Head of Science, Physics teacher and Teacher trainer. I have been a beekeeper for over 14 years and am a Master Beekeeper. I currently manage 35 hives. I am active within my own association leading groups studying for modules and practical beekeeping assessments. I am keen to assist other beekeepers to increase both their theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. I also spend time educating the public through talks and demonstrations. I find bees fascinating and am always keen to learn more. I am an Exam Board Member. I also mark BBKA exam papers as well as conduct practical assessments. Ways of Preparing For BBKA Exams ...Beyond Rote Learning My talk will focus on strategies that can be used to help people prepare for assessments. We shall look at the importance of reviewing the syllabus. The development of the vocabulary associated with a topic. Mind maps, diagrams and other techniques for helping develop key links. Examination techniques will be discussed. The Zoom link for this lecture will be sent to Area Association and Branch Secretaries and will also be available on BBKA Online Learning using the link below. Sun 16th Mar 2025 HBA Honey Bee Health & Beekeepers Education Day. Sparsholt College
The event be on Sunday 16th March 2025 and will be hosted by Sparsholt College in the Sainsbury Building. 9.30-16.30 Many tickets have already gone and there are still some early bird tickets available at this time. This year the event is being extended to include Education as part of the day so would be useful for Education Secretaries.
